Sunday's service celebrates our partnership with Masama Mboreny Lutheran Parish in Moshi, Tanzania which began nearly 30 years ago. The roots of our relationship date to 1989 when the ELCA was beginning a program to bring pastors of growing churches of Third World countries to the United States to learn about parish ministry. Masama Mboreny was partnered with Faith and we hosted visits from pastors and church leaders in 1990, 1996, 2001, and most recently in 2008. In June 2000, a group of eight people from Faith, who became known as the African Mission Team, visited Tanzania. Each week we are reminded of the gift of this special partnership when the presiding Pastor shares that "our communion hosts come to us from the Lutheran Deaconess Community in Moshi" as a sign of the Gospel that we share here, in Africa, and around the world. And, the Gospel reaches even more broadly as several congregations in New Jersey get their communion wafers from the Deaconess Community via Faith. Many of the traditional Tanzanian songs that we will be using on Sunday we have used in our worship throughout the years. Over the life of this ministry, Faith has made financial gifts in the hundreds of thousands of dollars which has been used in countless ways. As needs are identified, financial gifts have been shared to support ongoing ministries of the parish. The Holy Spirit continues to work in us and through us to strengthen our faith communities. Look for the insert in Sunday's bulletin for more details about this special ministry. ... See MoreSee Less
