Symposium on Race, Hatred and Bigotry

We will gather for special presentations on Saturday, September 23 and will then have our trip to Washington, DC on September 29-30. We will be presenting at the Saturday class, along with guests and shared resources from the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai Brith, the Islamic and Sikh communities, the NAACP, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Our trip to DC will include a visit to the National Museum of African American History on Friday, September 29. In the evening, we will tour various memorials including stops at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the FDR Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. On Saturday, September 30, our DC guide, Rohulamin Quander, who is a member of one of the oldest African American families in the country, will join us for a dynamic living history presentation that includes a visit to the Frederick Douglass Visitors Center, to Lincoln Park, the first park to honor Lincoln after his death, and to the steps of the Supreme Court to learn more about the dynamic history of race and justice in America. Following lunch at the Capitol building, we will be heading home.
