Join us on Sunday afternoon, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. as we continue to celebrate this special time in the church’s history. Our next gathering will take place at Little Flower in Berkeley Heights where we will explore the life and ministry of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We will be joined by author and seminary professor Dr. Katie Day, professor of Church and Society at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.
Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, anti-Nazi dissident, and key founding member of the Confessing Church. His writings on Christianity’s role in the secular world have become widely influential, and his book The Cost of Discipleship continues to be required reading in seminaries around the world. Apart from his theological writings, Bonhoeffer was known for his staunch resistance to Nazi dictatorship, including vocal opposition to Hitler’s euthanasia program and genocidal persecution of the Jewish people. He was arrested in April 1943 and was executed shortly before the liberation of the camps.
