Faith Lutheran Church is collecting monetary donations to send to Global Refuge, an organization formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and will match all funds received.
Since 1939, Global Refuge has assisted refugees from around the world and has welcomed more than 800,000 people to communities in the United States. To reach safety, refugees must go through a rigorous government-run vetting process that takes years to navigate.
These children and families fled war, violence, or persecution and came to the United States lawfully through the official U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, a process that is years-long and has been in place for six decades as part of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.
Global Refuge is under a stop-work order from the government. This means that government funding that provides food, housing, education, job placement, healthcare, and basic needs has come to a halt for the nearly 6,000 refugees currently in Global Refuge’s care. Many refugees depend on this support while becoming members of new communities.
If you would like to contribute, please make your check payable to “Faith Lutheran Church” and write “Global Refuge” in the memo line so it can be applied to this appeal. Mail your check to Faith Lutheran Church, 524 South Street, New Providence, NJ 07974.
Monetary gifts will be restricted to and used in full (100%) for Global Refuge and Faith Lutheran will match all funds received.
