Outreach Ministry Overview
Outreach is a regular part of the life of Faith Lutheran Church. Included in our list of mission partnerships are St. Stephan’s Grace Community – ELCA in Newark, New Jersey, and Masama Mboreny Lutheran Parish in Moshi, Tanzania.
Our partners include CROP Walk against Hunger, St. John’s Roman Catholic Soup Kitchen in Newark, Pedals for Progress Bike Collection, Coat Collection for Market Street Mission in Morristown, Christmas Sharing Tree, Fall and Spring Food Collection, StarFish Food Pantry in Plainfield, Somerset County Food Bank, Broadway House AIDS Ministry in Newark, Family Promise Homeless Hospitality, Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss, Roots & Wings and our Green Team Recycling Challenge.
Faith is an active leader in the ecumenical and interfaith community of New Providence, Berkeley Heights, and Summit with annual gatherings that include an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, Community Good Friday service, and annual Menorah Lighting on our lawn each December.
We partner with the local community through the Community Service Association of New Providence to provide backpacks, holiday gifts, and food; and provide space for the Dawn Patrol/AA and community groups to meet.
The Family also provides financial support to the wider church through the New Jersey Synod and countless other ministries including ELCA World Hunger, Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey, Lutheran Disaster Response, local hospital chaplaincies, local shelters, and schools. Always the goal is to touch people’s lives with reminders of God’s love and the care of Christ’s church.
