Marking Time – September 11 at Faith Lutheran Church and in the Community
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. As we mark this solemn anniversary, there will be several opportunities at Faith and throughout our community to remember, pray, and gather together.
Interfaith Community Service
Wednesday, September 9 | 7:00 p.m. | Faith Lutheran Church
Faith will host an Interfaith Community Service with members of the Berkeley Heights and New Providence Interfaith Clergy Group, including our partners from the synagogues in Summit and the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge.
Together, we will remember those whose lives were changed forever by September 11 and give thanks for the partnerships and friendships that have grown among our faith communities. Following the service, we will gather for fellowship and conversation.
Memorial Garden Eucharist
Friday, September 11 | 7:00 a.m. | Memorial Garden at Faith Lutheran Church
As we have on each anniversary since that tragic day, we will gather in the Memorial Garden for Prayer and Eucharist. Together, we will remember those who lost their lives, hold in prayer those who continue to bear the scars of September 11, and give thanks for the first responders, rescue workers, and countless others who demonstrated courage and compassion in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
September 11 Memorial Service
Friday, September 11 | 6:00 p.m. | Centennial Park, New Providence
Our community will gather at Centennial Park in New Providence to remember those who lost their lives and to honor the extraordinary courage of individuals who answered the call to serve in the days, months, and years that followed.
Summit Chorale 9/11 Memorial Sing-In
Sunday, September 13 | 3:30 p.m. Rehearsal, 5:00 p.m. Concert | Faith Lutheran Church
Faith is honored to serve as the host site for the 15th annual 9/11 Memorial Sing-In of the Mozart Requiem, organized by the Summit Chorale. This community collaboration offers an opportunity to remember those lost in the tragedy through the gift of music. All are invited to participate in this free event.
